Kenyan Chief Cabinet Minister and Foreign Minister Mudawadi meets with ZMEV senior management in Beijing

2024-09-06

On the morning of September 6, 2024, Kenyan Chief Cabinet and Foreign Minister Mudavadi, who was attending the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Beijing, met with Han Luyang, Vice President of Changan Kuayue Group, Huang Zhen, General Manager of the Foreign Trade Department of Changan Kuayue Group, Li Changhong, Executive Director of Kenya RIDEENCE, and Liu Yanjun, Vice President of ZMEV, to conduct in-depth exchanges and discussions on new energy vehicles in Kenya's public transportation and the establishment of a local new energy vehicle industrial system in Kenya.

Mudawadi said that during the precious opportunity of participating in the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, he and China's national leaders jointly built a solid and fruitful dialogue mechanism, aiming to deepen the diversified cooperation between the two parties in security, culture, agriculture, industry, etc. exchanges and cooperation in the field, and work together to promote the relationship between the two parties to a new stage of closer and prosperity. The "Kenya-China" comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership continues to move forward, and the cooperation between the two countries is at the forefront of "Africa-China" cooperation. Infrastructure projects represented by Kenya's Standard Gauge Railway, Nairobi Expressway and Swak Dam have significantly improved Kenya's economic and social outlook. We hope to strengthen cooperation with all walks of life in China.
Kenya is rich in renewable resources such as geothermal and solar energy. At the first African Climate Summit in June last year, Kenya adopted the "African Leaders' Nairobi Declaration and Call for Action on Climate Change", calling on African countries to join hands in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, vigorously developing new energy vehicles in Kenya is of great significance to the promotion of public travel. Mudavadi also expressed that he welcomes Chinese new energy companies to invest in the public transportation field in Kenya, and also hopes to help improve Kenya’s local automobile industry system through China’s advanced new energy automobile industry system.
Han Luyang, vice president of Chang'an Yue Group, said that the Kenyan market is an important market for Changan Yue Group to explore overseas, especially in Africa. At present, there are very few right-hand drive models exported overseas. Changan is one step ahead and has gained mature experience in the research and development and manufacturing of right-hand drive models. Now, through cooperation with the domestic ZMEV, Kenyan RIDEENCE company is used as a carrier to introduce domestic mature new energy vehicle technology to the Kenyan market and apply it to the public travel field. This has significant effects on Kenya's environmental protection and improvement of vehicle efficiency. In the future, Changan Yuehua Group will also invest more new energy models in the Kenyan market.
At the meeting, all parties also conducted in-depth discussions on Kenya’s automobile import tariffs, SKD factory investment policies, and charging pile investment and construction.

At present, ZMEV has invested nearly 100 new energy vehicles in Kenya for public transportation operations. By leasing new energy vehicles to online car-hailing drivers, companies and minibus operating companies, and investing in the construction of charging piles and after-sales service stations, it has provided Kenya's public transportation with a more energy-efficient and cleaner mode of transportation. In the future, ZMEV will also conduct in-depth cooperation with Kenya's RIDEENCE in the construction of SKD factories and public transportation smart platforms, and comprehensively deploy the new energy vehicle field in East Africa.
